 Answer these questions and explain how you did it. What tool could you use to explain your strategy?

1. Katie has 348 gel pens.  She gives ¾ of them away.  How many does she give away?

2.. Rhia has 10 packets of 20 biscuits.  She puts three tenths of them on a plate.  How many biscuits are on the plate?

3.  Mustafa buys 65 sweets.  He eats 4/5 of them.  How many does he have left?

4.  Ryan cuts a piece of string into three lengths. One is 4.26cm long, one is 7.54cm long and the third is 3.90cm long. How long was the string before it was cut?

What about if the stamps cost 66 cents each?

  1. since 1000 44 cents stamps = 440
    that means 1000 66 cents stamps =660

  2. 66c x 10 = $6.6
    66c x 100 =$66
    66c x 1000 = $660

  3. Since multypling decimals to a power of ten makes the decimal point move one point to the right you just move it one place for tens
    $6 66X 10=6.6$ next comes hundreds you now know to move it two places to the left $6.00X100=66$ $6.00X1000=660

  4. Sorry I did a mistake with the wording just each decimal point gets moved to the right when multiplying decimals/to the power of to the power of 10 from 66c =$6.6 dollars because one place to the right by tens 2 places to the right by 100 3 times by 1000 so from 66c 10= 6.6
    100= 66 since there is no other number you add a third digit because it is power of 1000 =660

  5. The activity at the top isn't working properly right now for me but the top question is two move it two places to the left which is also known as dividing the decimal by a power of 100 T H TH so on so on.

  6. the questions were easy because all you rally have to do is count the amount of numbers until the point and that is the answer.

  7. You need to multiply 7624.4 by 100 to get 76.244
    7624.4 x 10 = 762.44
    7624.4 x 100 = 76.244

  8. I understand it. It will be hard to do fast for my ladder test on friday but this has helped if i remember this I think that i will be able to complete this rung. of LCM.

  9. I understand the first strategy by working out all the multiples up to x10 and then seeing which multiples they both fit into, once you have worked out those You see which one is smaller and that is the answer. The second strategy seems to long and complicated to work out. I work them out different to both of these strategies but it is good to know how to do it differently.

  10. I kind of understand it because the LCM is the lowest number that both of the numbers have and that would be the LCM.

  11. I am not sure if it is going to help me with the test because even if I practiced it hard it would still take along time.

  12. 1. = 261. to get this answer I divided 348 by 2 and got 174 then I halved 174 and got 87. 87 x 3 = 261.

    2. = 60. First I worked out howmany biscuits there were in total = 200. 1 tenth of 200 is 20 and 20 x 3 = 60.

    3. = 52. 65 divided by 5 = 13. 4 x 13 = 52.

    4. = 15.7cm. First I added 4, 7 and 3 and got 14. 0.54 + 0.26 = 0.8 + 0.9 = 1.7 + 14 =15.7.

  13. 1.87 is 1/4 of 348 3/4= 261

    2.well 20 is 1/10 of 200 so if it was three tenths there would be 60.

    3. 13 is 1/5 of 65 so if you take away 4/5 of 65 there would be 13 left/there would be 52 taken away.

    4.all the string added together is 15.7. first I added 3 and 4 =7 0.90+ 0.26=7.16+ 7.54=15.7

  14. I don't get this question about divisors. It would be some thing like 100000000000000 and bigger but in a reasonable number it is 24, I think.
