Holiday Adventures

Hey Guys,

I am amazed at the adventures that you all have been sharing with me since our return to school this term. I am so impressed by them that I thought I should share a little adventure of mine with you all!

On Good Friday my younger brother and I decided that we would kayak to Matiu/Somes Island. We loaded the car with our kayaks and packed our bags and set off to Petone foreshore. The journey from Petone to Matiu Island took 45 minutes. It was a tough kayak against the waves and wind but was very enjoyable out on the water and in the sun.

Once on the small island in the middle of the harbour we walked around all the interesting sights including old gun turrets from World War II. We then had lunch and kayaked back to the mainland which was far easier on the return leg as it only took 30 minutes. It is fair to say that I slept well that night!

Mystery Blogger

Wouldn't it be cool to have a mystery blogger contribute to our blog.  They would share something about themselves or something that they think we would find interesting.

We really want to make our blog the place you visit every day to get the latest of what's happening in 7 Wonders.

What do you think 7 Wonders?  How could we get this started?

Please comment.

Hands on homelearning wk 9

Lets see what you writing goal looks like.

Create an image, movie, poster, sound clip, or something that tells that story of what it is you are working on with your writing goal.

Really looking forward to seeing it.  How creative can you be?

Remember you can bring it to school, email it in or put it on your sandpit to show us. If you put it on your sandpit, email me so I can check it out.

Happy creating:)

The kids should see this

Thanks Lucas and Maaike for this very cool link.  It raises many interesting questions.  I'm looking forward to exporing this site further.  Check out the little clip.

Using ' Making dice lite'

create a dice that you need

Create a title, and a symbol for each side of the dice

A few questions to answer.

What am I trying to practice by using making dice?
How many dice will make it challenging?
What would be on each dice?
If any combination from any dice came up, would it still work?

Hands on Home Learning Week 8

This week your challenge is to use the Jenny Eather site to write a report.

You can select any subject to write about, remember knowing quite a bit of information is important when writing a report.

You can either print your writing or email it to me and I will put several o the blog for those to read and all available in class to be read.

Happy writing:)

Today we learnt about looking closely at the suffix of a word

A suffix is the name that describes the spelling at the end of a word.  Eg. er= longer, shorter, higher etc.

We found it hard to think of words that had the same suffix as the words we were learning for www

so we Googled this.

It was pretty cool to see that lots of words use the same sound.  We think that if we learn the sound and how to spell it, we will be much better spellers.

Mya's example:
I can spell pictures but I'm not sure of creatures.  What can I do?
I know that they have the same sound at the end, so I can try using the same spelling.

What words do you know that you can use when you are a little stuck?

Using Puppet Pals to show what we have learnt

Use our cool " rocky shore" as a back ground.
Capture your amazing creatures
Show how they all go together .

What rocks their world?
The tide?  What happens when it comes in? goes out?
Predator or Prey? who's who?
How do we influence the rocky shore?

Yum

Looks like the boys are the future Master Chefs! Well done! My mouth is watering:)

Fantastic Ben!  I bet you were very popular in your house:)

Using google Maps for HOHL

It is 803k 13 hours and 17 min.
From Richard
Wellington to picton

Picton in the south island was our family holiday location.
We drove to Wellington ferry terminal and that took us…
13 minutes. However Not as long as it would take us if we had walked (not carrying any gear) = 3 hours and 40 minutes. Then we left windy Wellington and sailed to picton. It took us 3 hours and 11 minutes. So in total it took us 3 hours and 24 minutes.

Hands on Home Learning - wk 6

Use Google Maps to find out how far it is to your favourite holiday location.  ( real or pretend)

To go in the "ipad for a day" draw you need to:
  1. Send in an image proving that you used google maps to find your information.
  2. With the image provide  an explanation about how you would get to your location if you went in a car, walked or caught the bus.
  3. Put you name in the draw by adding a comment to this blog telling us that you are in!:)
Go for it.  I can't wait to see how clever you are at using google maps and how exciting those places must be.

Cooks Beach in the Coromandel was our family holiday location.  We drove via New Plymouth so it took us...
4 hours and 52 minutes to get to New Plymouth (that's without stops so you can imagine it took longer than that)
However not as long as if we had walked ( not carrying our camping gear)=2 days and 23 hours !!!!
Then we left the lovely New Plymouth and traveled to  to Cooks beach.   It took us 5 hours and 11 minutes

So in total 9 hours and 63 minutes!!! Driving that is.  Is that correct? What should it be?

Te Papa here we come
